Of men and might are stories told,

Captain Pike was he, a bearded pirate,
\nWhose hat, its former captain would not need
\nAfter the successful raid and pilfered ship
\nAs was done, according to Pirate\u2019s Creed.<\/p>\n
A crusty gent with a sideways walk
\nAnd what seemed a permanent sneer.
\nWith bushy brow and wrinkled nose,
\nThey say even a sea monster would fear.<\/p>\n
A ship ready to sink is how it looked,
\nBut a larger lie could not be told.
\nThe pirate\u2019s ship named Crossbones
\nWith its captain Pike, heartless and cold.<\/p>\n
The Endeavor, one of Britain\u2019s finest
\nNow lies on the ocean floor.
\nCaptain Handley and crew, all deceased
\nBy Crossbones strike, like a lion\u2019s roar.<\/p>\n
\u201cGive that to me.\u201d The captain shouted
\nTo his fearful crewman named Clem.
\nA gold tooth extracted from an Endeavor seaman
\nWho would no longer need the precious gem.<\/p>\n
A modest take is what they got
\nCompared to other raids
\nBut the rush to battle is what they liked[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeInUp”]Killing, cutting, slashing with their blades.<\/p>\n
To delight in victory and pilfer the ship
\nIs what\u2019s in the pirate\u2019s blood.
\nFor Pike and Clem and Dregs and Tinster,
\nAnd the famous cook named Private Mudd.<\/p>\n
The Pirate\u2019s song is sung at night,
\nAfter a successful raid in cheer.
\nRousting and jousting and dancing and drinking
\nAll whiskey, wine, and beer.<\/p>\n
All the while, a pigeon flies
\nWith a message attached to foot
\nAnd lands miles away on the Concord\u2019s deck
\nAnd picked up and on a table put.<\/p>\n
The writing ragged, almost unreadable
\nBut decipher it, Captain Sherman could,
\nWith eyes filled with tears and a sunken head,
\nHe read it aloud to his crew and said \u201cIt\u2019s not good.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSaved we won\u2019t be, rescue is too late,
\nWe know our fate has been written.
\nI write this as a warning to all other ships
\nAvoid 90 by 30 or by Crossbones be smitten.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPirates at the bow, Pirates at the stern
\nAnd on both the sides they keep climbing over
\nOur fate is sealed, it won\u2019t be long now[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css_animation=”fadeInUp”]For the crew of the famous ship Endeavor.\u201d<\/p>\n
With angered looks and determined mind,
\nUp to the stern Sherman walked like a bull.
\n\u201cTurn the Concord south by southwest\u201d he said.
\n\u201cNinety by thirty and all ahead full.\u201d<\/p>\n
Three hours gone by and then three hours more
\nThe Concord sliced through choppy sea.
\nA crew that was ready, a crew that was itching
\nTo go to battle for the sake of captain Handley<\/p>\n
Seaman Anders looked out over the ocean,
\nThen called out to captain Sherman
\nThe spec they could see, kept growing larger
\n\u201cThat\u2019s Crossbones. Let\u2019s go get that vermin.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the dead of night the Endeavor was attacked
\nCatching its entire crew off guard
\nBut this time would be different the captain knew
\nAs his crew readied and anxious they sparred.<\/p>\n
As the first shots were fired
\nIt was Pike\u2019s pirates, this time surprised.
\n\u201cTurn 40 degrees starboard\u201d Yelled Pike
\n\u201cWe\u2019ll crush them straight on\u201d he surmised.<\/p>\n
But it was too late as a second shot hit its mark
\nCaused a hole through the prate ship\u2019s side
\nThen a third cannon ball hit Crossbones square on
\nPrates, they screamed and pirates, they cried.<\/p>\n
Overboard went Tinster and then over went Clem,
\nFollowed by Dregs, and the one called McStud,
\nAnd then even captain Pike could not hold on
\nHe fell to his death right behind him old private Mudd.<\/p>\n
From the deck, the Concord\u2019s crew watched
\nWithout one expression of surprise.
\nThe Pirate ship sank to a watery grave
\nThus was the fate of Crossbone\u2019s demise.<\/p>\n
