There are two forms of meditation I want to cover. The first being where you meditate on the word, that being the teachings and scriptures in the bible, along with prayer, which is also a form of meditation. In fact any practice that helps your mind and body relax can be classed as meditation.

When you meditate on the word, you need to take your time, join classes where group debate and discussions take place. It’s necessary to have more than one point of view so you can choose the path you wish to take, it’s a long journey but along the way you’ll make friends, here and possible see things you’ve not heard or read before, even if you’ve read the bible, you can read it time and time again and other understandings can and will come to light. It obviously helps if your open minded, you can often understand one thing, which then opens another pathway, where you see something differently to the way in which you seen and understood it before. If you practice this regularly, it can become addictive, which isn’t a bad thing, the stories, the scriptures themselves and the understandings gained can and will change the way in which you think, that was what they were designed to do.

At times it may be difficult to focus, it may even seem boring until that moment of inspiration hits you in the face and a new understanding appears. Which sometimes surprises you, you may understand one thing one day, then read a scripture on another day, which changes the understanding you had completely and you see something in a different light, which can also have a knock on effect. This isn’t a story book, it has power to change the way you think and the way you feel. Above all things it does help if you are open minded, if you submit to the teachings. The scriptures were inspired by God and aGod breathed, they can affect you physically, mentally and spiritually. It’s the most powerful book I’ve ever read and I’ve read it at least 5 times and cover to cover.

The other type of mediation is the type that involves breathing exercises. You can practice these before you sleep for ten minutes and when you wake for ten minutes, that’s all it takes to get started. It helps your focus, it calms you emotions, it relieves stress, lowers your pulse and with practice can leave you feeling stress free, no matter what happens, what used to stress you out, all that frustration will just pass through. Meditation will release the pressure, which is the desired effect you want.

Here’s the negative side to this type of meditation and why so many try and give up. No one likes negative emotion, what we all do is suppress the negative emotions we feel and every day can have them. Unfortunately when you start meditation, when you begin to loosen the minds grip on these emotions, the crap surfaces and the feelings follow, so to begin with meditation can feel terrible, it can be overwhelming when the pressure starts to be released. As we know some carry more burdens than others, more negative emotion and this can be difficult to release but until you do, you won’t be able to breathe properly.

It’s imperative you get through the negative part and I must tell you the truth, you may feel sad, angry, depressed, disappointed and even emotional for no reason. All experiences and emotions you’ve suppressed at some point, often things you don’t want to think about come to the forefront of your mind.

There are techniques to turn these negative emotions in to positive ones and you’ve probably heard of them. You can use your imagination to think of something or,somewhere nice, relaxing perhaps, like laying on a beech, or sunned, anything positive and relaxing, picture those in your mind when your meditating, it will help.

We all lead very active lives so trying to implement those practices and ideas can take time, you may try and give up, go back and forth, start and stop but whatever you do, do not give up, grin and bear it. I’ll be honest, it took me a good year to release all my negative emotion and pressure. However, it was the best thing I ever did, I have no pressure in me now, so when I turnover to sleep, there are no thoughts bursting into my mind preventing me from sleeping and where I used to suppress those thoughts before, there’s no need anymore, so I remain completely relaxed and sleep better, recover quicker and even sleep a lot less. Then when I wake, I feel so much better and completely rested, theres no pressure release in the morning and again no thoughts bursting into my mind, leaving me free to think what I want, so I’ve trained myself to be positive and to be happy and it’s the greatest way to start the day.
If your encouraged to take up meditation, 10 minutes just before you would normally go to sleep and 10 minutes in the morning is more than enough. I used to take 10 deep breathes, holding for 5 and then relaxing, this helped to expand the blood vessels. Followed by 10 smaller rhythmic breathes, in and out and gently to encourage flow. You then focus your mind on either the breathing in and out or use your imagination and imagine that your muscles are relaxing and that your blood vessels are widening, start at your toes and work up, legs body, shoulders, neck and then the mind.

Remember meditation is good for releasing pressure, for relaxing and for improving flow. However your body works better under pressure. Walking and breathing is a powerful mediation, 30 minutes a day are all it takes to improve your energy levels.

To have a better experience and to open your mind from the inside out, you must fast and meditate. Be warned though, they are very powerful tools.
